AMIDiag Suite is a complete hardware diagnostics package, which I
had a lot of fun testing. I have always loved dinking with utilities and diagnostics
programs. That is where I fed my fascination and also learned the most in the early days of DOS and
Windows 3.1. AMIDiag Suite includes both AMIDiag 6.11 for DOS as well as the brand new AMIDiag for
Windows. No such software will ever be 100% perfect, but this is probably the most
reliable available
today. |
The Package
Installation CD
Contains all installation files, including a documentation PDF file for each
version. Yes, it would be nice to have printed documentation in front of you,
but don't forget about the F1 help key, which will give you pretty decent info
as you need it.
AMIDiag Suite Quick Start Guide
Easy to follow installation instructions and an overview of the program
features.
Serial and Parallel External Loop-back Plugs
An effective way to verify that a PC's serial and parallel ports are working correctly.
With the plugs, an input/output "loop" is created, allowing the program to send data out of the
PC, then receive data back. Most all other diagnostic software packages do not
include these, yet will say how very important it is that you use them!
Error Code Guide
A spiral bound book with all of the errors known to the program that
you may encounter. The tables include the error code, an explanation and the
recommended action. Very handy to have, especially if you ran a batch mode.
Platform
Compatible with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000. Now, I'm not experienced with Windows ME, but according to AMI, AMIDiag
is the only
diagnostic software that runs in DOS mode and is capable of running on a Windows ME system
without the need for a DOS floppy.
