 The Intro...

AMIDiag Suite 2

AMIDiag Suite is a comprehensive set of diagnostic and system information programs designed for both on-line and off-line diagnostics. The Suite includes both AMIDiag 2.0 for Windows and DOS-based AMIDiag 6.20.

Company Info: American Megatrends Inc. (AMI) is probably best known for their AMI BIOS, but also provides RAID controllers, motherboards, system management utilities and more to over 55 percent of today’s high-tech manufacturers.

This review focuses more on the Windows version as much hasn't changed since the last release of AMIDiag 6.12. Updates to the DOS 6.20 version are, support for the latest CPUs from Intel and AMD, Intel's Hyper-Threading Architecture, capability to test up to 16 IDE hard disks with capacity > 137 GB and a new CD read/write test.

The Windows based diagnostic is more immediately appealing for the end user, however, the DOS based diagnostic has still a lot to say, especially to skilled service and testing personnel. This is because the DOS diagnostic works at direct contacts with the driver and recognizes hardware problems even when the Windows drivers hide them. The DOS based diagnostic performs a much higher number of low-level test directly on the hardware components, and many customers still require it.

The Windows version has made a few important changes in the product architecture and control over tests has been improved by providing OEMs, system administrators and service personnel the features they need. These include, concurrent test execution, configurable test time-outs / halt on error, trouble ticket in HTML format and the ability to run batch executions.
